Terms of Service
Last updated: 7 July 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of PlainClause (“PlainClause”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these Terms. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy.
1. What PlainClause is
PlainClause is an informational tool that uses AI to produce a plain-English review of a contract you provide — a summary, a risk rating, potential red flags, things that may be missing, and suggested negotiation points. It is a software service, not a law firm.
2. Not legal advice
PlainClause does not provide legal advice and is not a substitute for a qualified lawyer. Using PlainClause does not create an attorney-client relationship. Our reports are AI-generated and may be incomplete or wrong. Do not rely on them as your sole basis for a decision. For important or high-stakes contracts, consult a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction. You are solely responsible for any decision you make about a contract.
3. Your account
You must provide accurate information and keep your login credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. You must be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract to use PlainClause.
4. Plans, billing, and cancellation
Pay-as-you-go purchases grant a set number of reviews and are charged once. Subscriptions (Starter, Unlimited) renew automatically each month at the then-current price until you cancel. Prices are shown at checkout in USD and are processed by Stripe.
Cancel anytime. You can cancel a subscription from your dashboard (Manage billing), which stops future renewals. When you cancel, you keep access until the end of the current billing period; we do not prorate or refund the remainder of a period unless required by law.
Fair use. The Unlimited plan is intended for normal individual and small-business use and is subject to a fair-use limit (currently a generous daily and monthly number of reviews). It may not be used for automated bulk processing, resale, or sharing a single account across an organization. We may contact you about a higher-volume plan if your usage substantially exceeds normal use.
5. Refunds
Because each review incurs a real processing cost the moment it runs, completed reviews are generally non-refundable. That said, we want you to be satisfied — if something went wrong (for example a failed or clearly defective review), email us at privacy@plainclause.ai and we’ll make it right, which may include a credit or refund at our discretion.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- upload content you don’t have the right to submit, or that is unlawful;
- attempt to break, overload, scrape, or reverse-engineer the service, or circumvent usage limits;
- use the service to build a competing product, or resell reviews without our written permission;
- use the service for any unlawful or abusive purpose.
7. Your content
You keep ownership of the contracts you submit and the reports we generate for you. You grant us the limited right to process your content solely to provide the service (for example, sending it to our AI provider to generate your report). We do not sell your content or use it to train AI. See our Privacy Policy for details, including how to delete it.
8. Disclaimers
The service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that reports are correct, complete, or suitable for your situation, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, PlainClause and its operator will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your reliance on a report or any decision you make about a contract. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
10. Termination
You can stop using PlainClause and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or use the service in a way that risks harm to the service or other users.
11. Changes
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date above. If a change is significant, we’ll try to give reasonable notice. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
