Privacy & FAQ
Last updated: 7 July 2026
Contracts often contain personal and sensitive details, so it’s fair to ask what happens to yours. This page explains it in plain English first, then sets out the full details. Short version: your contracts are yours. We never store the original document you upload, only you can ever see your reports, nothing you submit is used to train AI, and you can permanently delete any report at any time — forever.
The quick answers
What happens to my contract when I upload it?
It’s sent over an encrypted connection to the AI (Anthropic’s Claude) that writes your report. We then save the reportto your account so you can read it again later. We don’t post your contract anywhere, sell it, or share it with other users.
Do you keep a copy of my original contract?
No. We do not store the file or the raw text you submit. Once your report has been generated, the original document is not kept on our servers. What we save is the report itself — which may quote specific clauses so it’s useful to you — plus basic details like the file name. You can delete that report whenever you like.
Who can see my contracts?
Only you. Your reports are locked to your account at the database level, so no other customer can ever see them. A small number of our staff can access our systems when strictly needed to run the service (for example to fix a bug or investigate a security issue), but we don’t read your reports for any other reason.
Is my contract used to train AI?
No. We use Anthropic’s API, and Anthropic does not train its models on data sent through the API. Your contract is used only to produce your report.
Is my data encrypted?
Yes — all traffic between you, our app, and the services we use is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and your data is stored on reputable cloud infrastructure with encryption at rest.
Can I delete my data — for good?
Yes, permanently. Every report has a “Delete” button — on the report page and next to each report in your dashboard. Deleting a report removes it from our database for good: it’s gone, it can’t be undone, and we can’t recover it. And because we never stored your original document in the first place, deleting the report leaves nothing about that contract on our systems. To delete your entire account and everything in it, email privacy@plainclause.ai and we’ll take care of it.
Is this legal advice I can rely on?
No. PlainClause gives you AI-generated clarity to help you understand a contract, but it isn’t a law firm and its reports aren’t legal advice. For high-stakes contracts, please have a qualified lawyer review them.
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information PlainClause (“PlainClause”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, and what your choices are. By using PlainClause you agree to this policy.
Your data belongs to you
You own the contracts you submit and the reports we generate for you. We act only as a tool that produces those reports and stores them for your access. We don’t sell your data, we don’t use your contracts to advertise to you, and we don’t share your reports with anyone else.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up we collect your email address and a securely hashed password (we never store your password in plain text).
Reports and upload details. When you submit a contract, we generate a report and store that report in your account, along with basic details about the upload such as the file name, its length, and the type of file. We do not store the original file or the raw contract text you submit— it is processed to create your report and is not retained on our servers afterwards. Note that a report may quote specific clauses from your contract; deleting the report deletes those quotes too.
Billing information. If you buy a plan, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details. We never see or store your full card number — we only keep a record of your plan, usage, and a Stripe reference.
Basic usage data. Standard technical logs (such as error logs and the token/cost of generating a report) that help us keep the service running, secure, and sustainable. These are not tied to the contents of your contract.
How we use your information
We use your information to generate your contract reports, to save and display them to you, to process payments and manage your plan, to send you the emails you ask for (such as your report), and to operate, secure, and improve the service. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your contracts to advertise to you.
Service providers we share data with
We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run PlainClause. Each receives only the data needed for its role:
- Anthropic— provides the AI (Claude) that analyses your contract. Anthropic does not train its models on data sent through its API.
- Supabase— our database and login/authentication provider, where your account and reports are stored.
- Stripe— processes payments and subscriptions.
- Resend— sends the report and account emails you request.
- Vercel— hosts the application.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and our service.
Data storage and security
Your data is stored on reputable cloud infrastructure (currently hosted in the United States). We protect it with encryption in transit (HTTPS), encryption at rest, and database access controls that restrict each account to its own data. No online service can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable, industry-standard measures to safeguard your information.
Deleting your data — permanently
You decide how long we keep your reports, and you can remove them for good at any time.
- Delete a report.Use the “Delete” button on your dashboard or on the report page. This immediately and permanentlyremoves the report — and the associated upload details — from our live database. The action can’t be undone and we can’t recover a deleted report. Because we never stored your original document to begin with, nothing about that contract remains on our systems afterwards.
- Backups. We keep routine encrypted backups to protect against data loss. Any copy of a deleted report that existed in a backup is cycled out automatically as those backups age off — it is not restored to your account and is not accessible in the meantime.
- Delete your whole account. Email privacy@plainclause.ai and we’ll permanently delete your account and all associated data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information. You can delete your reports yourself at any time (see above); for anything else, contact us at the email below and we’ll respond within a reasonable time.
International users
PlainClause is operated from and hosted in the United States. If you use it from another country, your information is transferred to and processed in the United States.
Children
PlainClause is intended for adults dealing with their own contracts. It is not directed at children and is not intended for anyone under 18.
Not legal advice
PlainClause is an informational tool, not a law firm, and its reports are AI-generated and not legal advice. For important or high-stakes contracts, consult a qualified lawyer.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the “last updated” date at the top of this page.
